Automator Propper Cropper
The image crop action shipped with Automator automatically centers on the image in question. Useless if you want to grab the upper left corner, or any area come to think of it, of a bitmap.
Propper Cropper is an image crop action that allows you to select the location of the cropping area.

Download Propper Cropper.dmg 81k.
Download ProperCropper.action.zip - Snow Leopard Beta 15k.
To install mount the disk image and copy the action file to System>Library>Automator. You’ll probably be prompted for your administrator password.
The crop action will now appear in automator under the preview library.

I am looking for something to put in a script to crop a photo. I would rather use applescript and call the action from the tell application command but I can’t find any data about putting in the image / pixel info.
can you tell me how this would be done or a sample statement?
thanks.

This was great, but would be perfect if it also had the option of scaling before the crop, like the crop image script in Preview.

Thanks a lot, i had to extract a small area from a very large bunch of pictures(screenshots of chat from a program, from 4k pictures) and you really saved my day.
@pj: why dont you use the scale embedded in automator before using propper cropper?
i did it!

Hi,
I’ve tried to use your action with a single page PDF, for some reason it doesn’t produce any result. It works fine with a jpeg, but there seems to be an issue with the pdf; any idea why?

Is there a plan to release a snow leopard compatible Proppercropper? It seems like it’s the only automator action of its kind, but it is not compatible with snow leopard

I second the (desperate) plea for a Snow Leopard compatible version. From what I can tell the only issue is that the current version isn’t binary. I’ve looked everywhere for something else that accomplishes this, but there just isn’t anything out there.

Like the flickr action I’ll get propper cropper working with snow leopard as soon as I get a copy.

In Snow Leopard (10.6.1), I downloaded it. Opened the DMG. Double Clicked the .action file to install it, then cropped 4,000 images not centered.

Do you need a copy of SL? I’ll be happy to provide you with one. This is such a crucial app for me. Can i recompile in Xcode and share back with you?
