OSX Automator Flickr Upload Action 1.1
This is an automator action to help upload your photos from your Automator workflows to Flickr.
Download & Install
You can download the very latest release here.
- FlickrUpload-1.1.dmg - Flickr Upload Action for Automator version 1.1 - 93k
It’s a DMG image that finder will mount if you try and open it.
To install just drag the FlickUpload.action file to either the /Library/Automator folder for system wide use or /Users/<username>/Library/Automator for just a user. You may be prompted for your password if you try and install the action system wide.

Alternately you could use the ‘Import Actions…’ item from Automators file menu to install.

Using
Using the action couldn’t be simpler, it’s automator after all!
Just drag and drop the Flickr Upload action from the Flickr group to your workflow. Be sure to authenticate the action with Fickr. You can do that with the authenticate button. You’ll be taken to the Flickr website to login. Once you’ve done this, click the complete button in the action and if all is well your current credentials will be displayed and you’re ready to go.
All the field are optional and, like Flickr, add quotes around multi-word tags. If you like you can check ‘display while running’ to enter descriptions and titles during workflow execution.
This Automator getting started tutorial is a great place to get started using automator.
That should be all you need to know.
Any comments? eMail me. Go automate!

[…] It’s been a while since we’ve hit the Automator beat; too long, in my opinion. And what better way to bring everyone’s favorite little automate-able robot back into the TUAW spotlight than with the Flickr upload Automator action from James Pitts? After some simple instructions for installing, this action is prime for all sorts of image-related workflows, such as a Folder Action that allows you to drop pictures onto a folder to simultaneously add them to iPhoto, Aperture and Flickr (with tags) - all without lifting a finger (well, that is, if you don’t count the original finger you had to lift to drop the photos on the folder in the first place). […] OSX Automator Flickr Upload Action. A wonderfully simple Automator action. [IMPORTANT note: for those that used the original Automator action posted here, it would be worthwhile to upgrade to this one. It’s Universal Binary, and basically better. If you did follow the old instructions, you MUST delete the previous action and replace it with this new one. They are not compatible.] […]

My last post detailed an automator action that would upload a copy of your ichat buddy icon everytime you changed it with a built in camera. Unfortunately, it had to use the mail program to send the picture to flickr by email.
But what should I find on TU

[…] The key to making this project easy is the OSX Automator Flickr Upload Action kindly created for free by TurtleHead. You’ll need to download the action to proceed. Once you have the disk image on your Mac, mount it and then open Automator. I love your Flickr action, but have a request… Can you add in some image parameters to the text so we don’t have to copy/paste?
I’d like to see the Description field filled out with the Spotlight comment if there is one. (often this shows meta data for the photo that makes sense in the flickr image)
Of course this should only work if you leave the description blank, or have a checkbox to enable meta data.
Thanks.

Gabyu, Can you give me a little more information? Did you get a popup or a message in a log about the api key? I’ve not revoked any so I expect they should still work ok.
Are you using the latest version of the action?
Cheers,
Jim

How did you create this? I looked through the action and see a FlickrUpload binary. Where’d that come from? (As you can probably tell, I’ve never created an Automator action before)

Nice action.
Just one problem…
I’m making a workflow to automate uploading to Flickr of any snaps I take in Photo Booth.
My workflow is as follows…
- Find Finder Items (folder Photo Booth), Date Created: today
- Filter Finder Items (jpgs only)
- Upload to Flickr
- Move Items To Trash
… and it uploads *multiple* copies of the snapped image to Flickr.
Currently it’s two copies of the image. And there’s also some discrepancy over whether it’s deleting the image properly too (subsequent snaps have resulted not only in the correct image being upload but also the previous snap - both of which get uploaded two times).
Thanks
