No TV required
I always thought it was unsociable to have the TV on whist listening to music so here’s the latest hack.
It’s very early at the moment and only prints a little info out and no control is yet possible. That will change when I get to it.
Thanks to Al for the idea..
The LCD is fromĀ PJRC.

Hello
What happed to the Inside the WMA11B page? apparently the old links dont work, I would like to rip open my device, but would like to know what to expect and btw, what type of interface is used for the LCD? serial? GPIO?
Thanks
Jay

The inside page got misplaced this weekend during the conversion to WordPress. I’ll reinstate it later on today.
The LCD was attached to the missing serial port. I just added a serial driver to the blank socket. Andy Wild discovered the pins on the motherboard for the GPIO but I can’t remember where they are now.

Jim,
Thanks a ton! as for the LCD, the one you are using is actually a serial protocol based LCD then? How are the song info sent to the LCD? as part of the serial dump message from the linux kernel inside? Does the original firmware print anything at all on this port?
Cheers
Jay

“the one you are using is actually a serial protocol based LCD then?” Jayjay said…. same question, but with another hack in mind :
I’ve a bunch of old Nokia GSM screens (all serial based, with the power supply regulation and the buffering stage embedded). It’s less readable than the screen you used, but it coud be enough just to give basic infos
Thnks for the nice job you do on your web site.
